Bonding-Edge: The linchpin of lightness

Modern design and increasing mobility require ever more lightweight furniture. The processed boards must, however, demonstrate sufficient loadbearing capacity and rigidity but be as light as possible. As a result, the type of edgebands used plays a significant role, as they play an additional role in safety and support. Döllken developed the bondingedge for this reason. It is employed in conventional automatic processing to stabilise the board within the slot previously milled into the decks. Only then is the actual decorative edgeband applied. The continuous perforation of the bonding-edge forces the adhesive through the holes during gluing, anchoring it very solidly to the board. Due to its special material formulation, the bonding-edgeband also offers excellent stability and flexibility and is therefore suited for radius processing by workcentre. The bonding-edge is also very wellsuited for processing with another procedure, such as the double-edge procedure of Homag. Here, it is glued directly to the dec rative edge forming a “T profile” and simultaneously glued to the lightweight board. This works smoothly with the bonding-edge, as it is very flat and features very exact tolerances.
